What To Expect During a Contact Lens Fitting

What to Expect During a Contact Lens Fitting at Eye Society

Contacts are an excellent alternative for someone who doesn’t wish to undergo LASIK surgery or wear glasses full-time. They offer flexibility, allowing each patient options that fit their lifestyle needs. To ensure comfort and eye health, it is critical that you are properly fitted and educated on lens care and hygiene. A comprehensive exam at Eye Society in Chicago includes a contact lens fitting and consultation to identify the right fit for your eyes and lifestyle needs.

Types of Contact Lens Available

Soft contacts come in a variety of styles and materials. Your optometrist can assist you in determining which design will best meet your eyewear goals:

  • Daily wear - removed and cleaned nightly
  • Disposable - worn and discarded daily, weekly, or monthly
  • Extended wear - worn overnight for up to seven consecutive days without removal
  • Toric lenses - for patients with astigmatism, these lenses have multiple strengths in different meridians
  • Multifocal lenses - for patients with presbyopia or astigmatism, these lenses have different power zones

Most lenses can be custom made to fit your eyes and vision impairment. Bifocals, lenses to correct keratoconus, colored contacts, and lenses for dry eyes are also available options.

What to Expect During a Contact Lens Fitting

During your comprehensive eye exam, the optometrist will check your vision, overall eye health, prescription, and assist you in deciding what type of corrective lens is right for you. If you decide on contacts, they will take measurements of your eye to ensure proper fit, feel, and vision correction. You will receive an in-person tutorial regarding insertion, removal, and proper care and sent home with a pair to try for a few days.
